HPR161 Basic Nutrition This course introduces the student to the basic scientific principles of “normal” nutrition as well as the physiological processes related to digestion, absorption, and metabolism of nutrients. An emphasis will be placed upon practical applications for nutrition, including how to read and analyze food labels; how to analyze personal eating habits; how to distinguish between nutrition fact and fiction; and how to identify relationships between nutrition and disease. Additionally, this course will investigate the nutritional requirements of mothers, infants, children, teens, and geriatric populations.
